Metavallon and startups unstoppable and in the spotlight
Εvents, media attention, interviews, and podcasts have shed some light on the many activities and progress of Metavallon and our startups these past few months. Indeed, as the regional economy was coming to a standstill, our efforts and achievements have been ceaseless – and the public was taking notice. Let’s look into our most notable social moments.
Metavallon tweets with the world
These past few months have been extremely interesting for Metavallon. Our team was engaged in numerous activities. Following up on the success of The Accelerator 2014, in the first quarter of 2015 we were looking forward to announcing the cycle for 2015 with even more advanced features. To that, we organized Twitter chats together with our media allies startup.gr & epixeiro.gr and our media friend startupper.gr.
The first one was titled “#AskAFounder” and it was an enlightening Twitter discussion with Antonis Argyros, founder at liateR and former participant of The Accelerator. Antonis carried on for more than an hour providing our Twitter community with useful insights on the acceleration process and its benefits. And our Twitter handle was on fire during that time. It was an excellent way to engage and inform our online community on the benefits of The Accelerator, with Antonis sharing his testimony and insights. Epixeiro.gr delivered the news online and contributed to the discussion with their own Twitter handle (@epixeiro).
Next in line was our second Twitter chat titled “#AskanInvestor”, on April 17. This time it was our expert and investor Maria Kolitsida who shared insights with our online community on what investors expect from startups and how young companies can get what it takes to attract investors. This chat increased the reach of our Tweets even by 700%, assisted by the Twitter handles of our media allies startup.gr and epixeiro.gr.
As a follow up, startup.gr published a wonderful article on what went on during the chat.
Our final Twitter chat was titled “#AskTheAccelerator”. This was our turn to answer some difficult questions addressed to us by the startup journalist Dimitris Pogkas on behalf of @startupper.gr and by our online community of course. In essence, we talked about modern startups and the qualities they should have in order to succeed. It was also another unique opportunity to explain the benefits of The Accelerator to our community. Startupper.gr then followed up with this article, making the acceleration process easy for everyone to understand.
All in all, the feedback we received after the three Twitter chats was astonishing. It was indeed a different way of engaging with our community and, in fact, it turned out to be a very fulfilling and receptive pursuit.
Presenting The Accelerator at Open Coffee Patras and Open Coffee Thessaloniki
With the call for The Accelerator still open, we felt it was important to go out and talk straight to the people interested in participating. To that, we travelled to the beautiful cities of Patras and Thessaloniki, as we were invited to present our upcoming program to the popular Open Coffee events. Thank you to everyone who joined us these evenings asking for every detail about The Accelerator.
Here is a video of our presentation in Patras.
Acknowledgement for empowering European startups
Never before has a Greek organization been so much involved in empowering startups on an international level. On May 1-3, the 1st FIWARE Startup Bootcamp and Investment Forum took place in Berlin. It hosted 64 of the most promising startups from EU accelerator and 19 super-active investors. It was co-organized by Future Internet Business partners, namely Metavallon, Media Deals, bwcon, EBAN and Uusi Tehdas.
For us here at Metavallon is was exciting that both the national and European media of the startup and business ecosystem acknowledged our efforts towards this direction. Startup.gr and Epixeiro.gr all shared details about the event, showcasing the impact our work has on an international level. The story was also shared in major European websites addressing the technology community and in European Commission portals as well.
Startup liateR going fast – going global
It is ever so encouraging to see startups from our previous cycles getting increased visibility. liateR and its founder Antonis Argyros is doing a splendid job on this side indeed. The first Open Coffee Patras meeting for 2015 took place on mid January and Antonis Argyros was enthusiastically invited to pitch his business.
On February, it was rather exciting for us to hear that Antonis was invited to pitch during Startup Turkey event together with top startups and investors from the region.
March was another fascinating month for liateR. Antonis was invited to present his product to the domestic fashion industry at Athens Fashion Club event.
Going international again, on March 31st liateR was invited in the Step Conference in Dubai to meet with a unique pool of investors and technology enthusiasts.
Lately, on May 14, the founder of liateR was a speaker during Athens Customer Experience Festival, a unique event on sales and customer satisfaction.
At the same time, in May Antonis was featured on StartupStories.gr, a popular podcast covering the domestic entrepreneurial ecosystem. Listen to his story.
Sensorflare – Automating their way to success
These first months into 2015 have been thrilling for Sensorflare as well, another startup from The Accelerator 2014 cycle. The year kicked-off with a significant success for the team from Patras. The company was awarded twice at the 4th Annual Internet of Things Awards by Postscapes.com. It received People’s Choice Runner-up Awards for two categories: Technical Enabler: Platform and Tools and Connected Home Product.
Τhen, it was Open Coffee Athens LXX with Sensorflare pitching their business in front of other founders, investors, and excited startup enthusiasts. Here is the video of the presentation:
Patras Innovation Quest 2015 (PatrasIQ) was the next stop for the team at Sensorflare, showcasing the way they make things happen at the fascinating world of the Internet of Things. Lately, the team at Sensorflare has been engaged with participating at select competitions. On June 30th was the final pitching event for Startup Tel Aviv 2015, and Sensorflare joined DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival 2015.
At the same time, Sensorflare are hoping to win “Business IT Excellence” competition by OTE-Cosmote and CISCO for innovative companies at the Internet of Things.
Metavallon on Swiss public radio
Luca Fasani is a journalist at Radiotelevisione svizzera di lingua italiana (RSI). He covers economic and business issues in Europe and he visited our office early this July. Having realised the true potential our ecosystem he wanted to find out more about Greek technology startups and innovators.
During his visit, he interviewed Alexandra Choli, Metavallon Executive Director, along with startups of our network. This was part of an interesting radio show on european issues. To that, the experienced Swiss-Italian journalist reported with admiration on the Greek startup ecosystem, identifying that it is remarkably healthy and full of talented people focused on technology and innovation.
“Indeed Greece is not only pessimism”, stated Mr. Fasani. ”There is Metavallon. There are many foreigners coming to Athens to join Metavallon”. For speakers of Italian, here is the recording. The references to the Greek startup ecosystem are on the second half.
